Oklahoma Well Database

Project Goal

In 2022, the State of Oklahoma, in collaboration with Clubnet Solutions based in Toronto, Canada, contracted me to design and develop a solution to enhance their environmental stewardship. The goal was to create a native iOS and Android application that would:

  • Provide a mapped database of environmental sites within Oklahoma.
  • Enable tracking of environmental management stages and site status by the state and its partners.
  • Visualize the state’s progress in managing these sites through various metrics.

This project aimed to streamline environmental management, improve transparency, and facilitate data-driven decision-making for the State of Oklahoma.

Tools Used

Miro was used collaboratively to collate product requirements, user research insights and design specifications

Figma and FigJam were integral tools for design planning and asset production

Material UI was the UI Kit of choice for the Design System

Design Discovery

We conducted an in-depth Design Discovery process to thoroughly understand user needs, identify problems, and develop targeted solutions. This comprehensive approach involved several key steps:

  1. Empathy Mapping: We identified and profiled key user groups, gaining deep insights into their behaviors, pain points, and needs.
  2. User Journey Mapping: We developed detailed user journeys to visualize the current pathways and challenges faced by users, highlighting critical touchpoints and areas for improvement.
  3. Design Thinking and Ideation: Through collaborative ideation sessions, we finalized comprehensive use cases tailored to each key user group, ensuring the application effectively addresses their specific problems and aligns with the overall product goals.

This extensive process ensured that the final product was user-centric, addressing real needs and facilitating improved environmental management and transparency for the State of Oklahoma.

Design Concept

At this phase, the key aims were to create assets that strictly aligned with user needs, key user group goals, the State of Oklahoma’s product objectives, and foundational elements for a design library using the Material UI Design Kit.
